Do you know where your meat comes from?
I recently watched the movie "Food Inc." which profiles the practices of the large beef and poultry industries in the U.S.
It made me think even more about the meat we eat, and thankful that we have a freezer full of locally raised, grass fed beef. I've switched to free-range organic chicken, and am still working on what to do about the lunch meat we eat.
Last Sunday's NY Times ran this letter to the editor which gives us more food for thought:
"Let me see if I have this straight: We are now feeding our children stuff that used to be reserved for dog food, by treating it with ammonia, in order to save three cents a pound? Hey, why not just feed the little tykes dog food? I'm sure it would save even more money. By the way, since we are using the former scraps for people now, what are we feeding the dogs?"
